If you live in the area from Goleta, Oxnard, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, West Hills & Northridge, you can go to CHILI’S Bar & Grill on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, the 25th, 26th, 27th of June and mention that you are there to help support the VC Stand Down and 15% of your meals will be used to help the Homeless Vets at the Stand Down. Though it has been 9 months since the event, people attending the fine banquet you provided our speakers and the Symposium at the Veterans Hall continue to recall the experience of meeting them. Leon DeLisle’s commitment and inspiration to bring these speakers to the fore initiated and carried through the entire program. While it’s too late to give him credit in this article, I want to be sure to remind all that it was his idea, in the first place, and his unfaltering support of veterans that programs like this take place. Without him, we would not have had the ‘top flight fighter pilots’ to give their first hand accounts of aeronautical achievement, test and fighter pilot experience and valiant service in combat. I saw that you do scholarships for people that have disabilities. I was cooking for my mom and family visiting from the east coast 7 years ago for thanksgiving and my mom had a new knife set, well needless to say I ended up slicing my right pinky and ring finger almost completely off. I have had 15 surgeries and can not bend or straighten my fingers. I have had two bone grafts from my wrist, attempted to take a tendon out of my arm and make a path with silicon as a tunnel to insert the tendon, but I am allergic to silicone, without knowing, and had a severe infection which caused me to have a pick line put in that was connected to my heart, a skin graft from the side of my hand to fill in the loss of skin from the infection, my ring finger is fused at the joint, my pinky broke twice because loss of motion, I have had two screws put in which will permanently be in place forever and the other surgeries were to try and save what I have left of half of my hand. The muscles in my palm had to be stitched back together as well. I am right handed just to top it all off. I am in continuous pain with it, but there is nothing my surgeon can do to fix them. Recently I have lost blood circulation in my two fingers and the blood supply will cut off momentarily until I elevate it. It is very difficult for me to type and write and I have developed arthritis and carpool-tunnel syndrome. I just turned 27 in November and worry what will be of my hand when I am older. I am going to Independence University in February for Respiratory Therapist despite the difficulty with typing and writing. I have never applied for any assistance and don’t even know if this is what I am supposed to be doing, but if I can get my story out and any help so I can further my education I would be forever grateful! I notice you do a lot for the community and it is something I would love to help out with! I used to dance ballet professionally and my dreams of that can no longer happen due to the loss of mobility and function in my hand. I had to quit my job as a server because of the pain and liability to the restaurant if i were to reinjure myself. I just want to put this negative situation into a positive light and I wont give up on my education and dreams but I just need a little help in taking that first leap of faith. Thank you for taking the time to read my story even if I don’t get the Scholarship. What you do for the community is amazing, and I wish more people would do the things you folks do! Don’t ever lose faith in humanity and hold on tight to your dreams! Best of luck and hope to hear from you soon!

I am the ENF chairperson for the Vista Ca. lodge 1968. I have a question and need some guidance about service dogs in the lodge. I know we have service animals that perform a certain task they are trained but not sure about “Emotional Support” dogs. A few people bring their dogs in and we are not allowed to question them except with these comments as per ADA!
1.is the dog a service animal that is required because of a disability?
2.what work or task has the dog been trained to perform.
We cannot ask for documentation, or to require the dog to show us the task or inquire about the nature of the persons disability.
*If the dog provides comfort just by being with the person and not trained to do a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service dogs under the ADA. Does Calif. have any laws to allow emotional support animals into public/priviate places? and does that apply to our lodge? ADA says some states have different rules and its up to us to check. I cannot find anything. The Members know the ADA rules have to be followed, they are just cloudy on some issues Like an Elk dining room. The members that have allergies are feeling upset about all this, but we know they may have to move to a separate area but we cannot ask the person with the disability to move to a certain area as per ADA. Any ruling on this? We don’t want to get sued for any of this and it is becoming a problem with a few members being too vocal about the person with disabilities. We are trying to educate folks to the RULES but would like you help. I have asked our State advisor to provide us with guidance as well, but this may become more than a district issue with so many service dogs starting to come to our lodge dining room. A new member has the first service Dog we encountered.

Could someone please tell me how a House Committee in chosen and what HIS duties are as far as runing the house committee are I can’t seem to be able to find any information on his job as Chairman!
Please refer to GLS 16.040. How the House Committee will be organized in your Lodge is set forth in your by-laws. The choices were (a) Exalted Ruler, three Knights and Trustees,(b)the Trustees alone, (c) the Exalted Ruler appoints 3 to 13 Members (as specified in the by-law) who serve at his/her pleasure or (d) the Board of Directors.
The duties and responsibilities of the House Committee are fully described in 16.040, the Opinions and Decisions under the same statute. Your Lodge might have a local operating manual for the committee that fleshes out certain details but 16.040 is the “Bible” for the committee.
I just can not believe all the information that is available if your willing to look for it. Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to set this up. A shame if it is not utilized. I’m probably the last one to find it.

I once saw Niel Armstrong at a distance of about 100 ft.. When the mind is open, and all of your senses are awakened, anticipating such a singularity, the light of the sun and everything on which it falls, sings with exaltation and stays in ones memory, incandescent. When I attended Grand Lodge in Indiana, in 2014, as an ER of my Lodge, I anticipated seeing all of the Elks officers assembled in Indianapolis, having read The History of Elks several times, and devoted several years in all of the chairs and in memorization of our Ritual, I came back to the Mid-West with great expectation, to see the throng “fill the mountaintop”. When the Grands assembled in the ballroom and I recognized the faces of so many True and Loyal Elks, of which I’d read, and with whom the Order has achieved, so much, PGER Moore stood out, so tall and regal, he was unmistakeable. His memory will not fade. Where shall we find such Elks?

Though it has been 9 months since the event, people attending the fine banquet you provided our speakers and the Symposium at the Veterans Hall continue to recall the experience of meeting them. Leon DeLisle’s commitment and inspiration to bring these speakers to the fore initiated and carried through the entire program. While it’s too late to give him credit in this article, I want to be sure to remind all that it was his idea, in the first place, and his unfaltering support of veterans that programs like this take place. Without him, we would not have had the ‘top flight fighter pilots’ to give their first hand accounts of aeronautical achievement, test and fighter pilot experience and valiant service in combat. I saw that you do scholarships for people that have disabilities. I was cooking for my mom and family visiting from the east coast 7 years ago for thanksgiving and my mom had a new knife set, well needless to say I ended up slicing my right pinky and ring finger almost completely off. I have had 15 surgeries and can not bend or straighten my fingers. I have had two bone grafts from my wrist, attempted to take a tendon out of my arm and make a path with silicon as a tunnel to insert the tendon, but I am allergic to silicone, without knowing, and had a severe infection which caused me to have a pick line put in that was connected to my heart, a skin graft from the side of my hand to fill in the loss of skin from the infection, my ring finger is fused at the joint, my pinky broke twice because loss of motion, I have had two screws put in which will permanently be in place forever and the other surgeries were to try and save what I have left of half of my hand. The muscles in my palm had to be stitched back together as well. I am right handed just to top it all off. I am in continuous pain with it, but there is nothing my surgeon can do to fix them. Recently I have lost blood circulation in my two fingers and the blood supply will cut off momentarily until I elevate it. It is very difficult for me to type and write and I have developed arthritis and carpool-tunnel syndrome. I just turned 27 in November and worry what will be of my hand when I am older. I am going to Independence University in February for Respiratory Therapist despite the difficulty with typing and writing. I have never applied for any assistance and don’t even know if this is what I am supposed to be doing, but if I can get my story out and any help so I can further my education I would be forever grateful! I notice you do a lot for the community and it is something I would love to help out with! I used to dance ballet professionally and my dreams of that can no longer happen due to the loss of mobility and function in my hand. I had to quit my job as a server because of the pain and liability to the restaurant if i were to reinjure myself. I just want to put this negative situation into a positive light and I wont give up on my education and dreams but I just need a little help in taking that first leap of faith. Thank you for taking the time to read my story even if I don’t get the Scholarship. What you do for the community is amazing, and I wish more people would do the things you folks do! Don’t ever lose faith in humanity and hold on tight to your dreams! Best of luck and hope to hear from you soon!

Patrick was a great friend and mentor to myself and my wife Nina. He had a great sense of humor and was always welcoming to us at convention! We met him through a friend, PDDGER Michael Murphy, RIP. We became close to Pat and his wife Flo and wish that God look over his family and Flo. You will be missed Brother Pat as he was an Elk’s Elk. RIP Pat.

Nina and I were close to Pat and Flo through PDDGER Michael Murphy RIP. I am the ENF chairperson for the Vista Ca. lodge 1968. I have a question and need some guidance about service dogs in the lodge. I know we have service animals that perform a certain task they are trained but not sure about “Emotional Support” dogs. A few people bring their dogs in and we are not allowed to question them except with these comments as per ADA!
1.is the dog a service animal that is required because of a disability?
2.what work or task has the dog been trained to perform.
We cannot ask for documentation, or to require the dog to show us the task or inquire about the nature of the persons disability.
*If the dog provides comfort just by being with the person and not trained to do a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service dogs under the ADA. Does Calif. have any laws to allow emotional support animals into public/priviate places? and does that apply to our lodge? ADA says some states have different rules and its up to us to check. I cannot find anything. The Members know the ADA rules have to be followed, they are just cloudy on some issues Like an Elk dining room. The members that have allergies are feeling upset about all this, but we know they may have to move to a separate area but we cannot ask the person with the disability to move to a certain area as per ADA. Any ruling on this? We don’t want to get sued for any of this and it is becoming a problem with a few members being too vocal about the person with disabilities. We are trying to educate folks to the RULES but would like you help. I have asked our State advisor to provide us with guidance as well, but this may become more than a district issue with so many service dogs starting to come to our lodge dining room. A new member has the first service Dog we encountered.

The choices were (a) Exalted Ruler, three Knights and Trustees,(b)the Trustees alone, (c) the Exalted Ruler appoints 3 to 13 Members (as specified in the by-law) who serve at his/her pleasure or (d) the Board of Directors.
The duties and responsibilities of the House Committee are fully described in 16.040, the Opinions and Decisions under the same statute. Your Lodge might have a local operating manual for the committee that fleshes out certain details but 16.040 is the “Bible” for the committee.
I just can not believe all the information that is available if your willing to look for it. Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to set this up. A shame if it is not utilized. I’m probably the last one to find it.

I once saw Niel Armstrong at a distance of about 100 ft.. When the mind is open, and all of your senses are awakened, anticipating such a singularity, the light of the sun and everything on which it falls, sings with exaltation and stays in ones memory, incandescent. When I attended Grand Lodge in Indiana, in 2014, as an ER of my Lodge, I anticipated seeing all of the Elks officers assembled in Indianapolis, having read The History of Elks several times, and devoted several years in all of the chairs and in memorization of our Ritual, I came back to the Mid-West with great expectation, to see the throng “fill the mountaintop”. When the Grands assembled in the ballroom and I recognized the faces of so many True and Loyal Elks, of which I’d read, and with whom the Order has achieved, so much, PGER Moore stood out, so tall and regal, he was unmistakeable. His memory will not fade. Where shall we find such Elks?
