Mission Statement:
The California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc., a committee of the California-Hawaii Elks Association, pledges its commitment to addressing the unmet needs of children with disabilities throughout the states of California and Hawaii by developing a program of supporting service to aid these children at no cost to their families and without discrimination.
After the introduction of the Preschool Vision Screening program in 1965, the Elks of California and Hawaii developed the Vision Care Program in 2001 to provide emergency financial assistance for eye examinations, glasses and medical care for eligible children with covered eye conditions.
Limited funds are available for:
- Eye examinations
- Glasses
- Medically necessary contact lenses
- Diagnostic evaluations
- Medical treatment
- Surgery
Who is eligible to use these funds?
Children who are:
- Between the ages of birth to 18 years old
- Identified with covered eye problems by our vision screeners or therapists
- Not qualified to receive financial aid from governmental agencies
- Not insured
- Unable to meet medical co-payment or deductibles
- Ineligible for other private program funding, such as Sight for Students, New Eyes
for the Needy, Children’s Fund, and others
How Does One Apply?
For assistance with eye examinations and/or glasses:
- Contact Megan Macleod, the preschool vision screener, or the therapist who referred your child.
- Contact the director at the preschool where your child had the eye screening.
For assistance with other eye care:
- Contact our preschool vision screener or the therapist who referred your child.
- Contact the director at the preschool where your child had the eye screening.
- Complete the financial assistance application which will be provided by our staff.
