Hemet Elks Lodge No. 1740 Sponsors Veterans to the Wheelchair Games
On July 9, 2016, the Hemet Elks Lodge sponsored a car show, sock hop and lunch with hamburgers and hot dogs. This was a fund raising event to help veterans from the Loma Linda VA Medical Center to compete in the National Veterans Wheelchair games. These games are held every year in a different location and all wheelchair-bound veterans in VA medical centers are invited to participate.
On July 10, 2016 we invited ten veterans from Loma Linda VA. Medical Center to the lodge for brunch. One guest, Mr. Al Marconi won an archery gold medal at the games. The money that we made on 7/9/2016 will help these veterans attend the games in 2017.
The following folks deserve our thanks: Trish Yzerman, for coming up with the idea and seeing it though, Craig White, for cooking the hot dogs and hamburgers, and all the rest of the crews that worked to make it a success. Most of all, thanks go to Tom “The Guitar Guyâ€, for going way beyond what he needed to do. Thanks too, to Jonnie Fox and the Satinettes, who did the music, are great performers, and better people.
