Ritual Contest 2013 at Convention in Anaheim, California
The top teams and their scores in the preliminary competitions were:
Second place: Grillo Division – Alameda #1015; scoring 95.4651
Second place: Moore Division – Van Nuys-Reseda #2790; scoring 95.1890
In the Grillo Division a First Place Plaque was presented to Chula Vista Lodge No. 2011, scoring 96.0020, and their All State Coach Debbie Hosted.
In the Moore Division a First Place Plaque was presented to Huntington Beach Lodge No. 1959, scoring 97.1759, and their All State Coach Gary Mueller.
The Preliminary competitions also determined our All State Ritual Officers. This award is for the highest scoring officer of each officer chair for each division, and who is not a repeat officer. California also awards the All State Candidate from each division.

The Bud Tari Perpetual Trophy was awarded to the most underappreciated member of the ritual team – “The Candidateâ€. Bud Tari was the first Exalted Ruler of Livermore-Pleasanton Lodge #2117. After being lost for over 70 years, the trophy was obtained by our CHEA Historian, Trill Torrilhon. This trophy was the one awarded in the California Ritual Competitions from 1925-1930.
The most impressive candidate of the Final Four teams was presented to Debbie Hosted from Chula Vista Lodge No. 2011.
The Gerald Strohm Award is awarded to the Exalted Ruler, performing in the Final Four Competition, who scores the highest in Impressiveness. John Lathbury, with a score of 47.5625 out of 50 from Alameda Lodge No. 1015 was presented with this award.
